The 9 happy habits are the practices that work together like spokes in a wheel to strengthen our Zenter. One of these happy habits is the practice of Eating Real Food.

How Eating Real Food Works

It may seem like a strange happy habit but food provides the building blocks and the fuel for our bodies and our brains.


What we eat literally becomes us; every seven years or so our bodies have completely replaced all of our cells using the building blocks we have provided from food.

There is also an area of our gut that it directly connected to our brain via the gut-brain-axis. This is why our gut is called our second brain and why what we eat and absorb actually intimately influences how we think and feel! Because we are about 10 percent human and 90 percent bacteria, we need to feed that good bacteria in our gut what they love – lots of fibre (enter fruits and veggies). A happy gut means a happy brain because 95 percent of our feel-good hormone (serotonin) is actually made in our gut. The good bacteria in a happy gut are also involved in breaking down and absorbing nutrients, producing vitamins and hormones and preventing diseases.


Eating whole, fresh fruits and veggies everyday ensures that kids are feeding their bodies and brains what they need to thrive.

Teaching Kids About Eating Real Food


We like keeping things simple and teaching concepts in ways that kids learn best; through stories, creativity, play and hands-on experiences. You can use any of our resources to teach about Eating Real Food. Like, using the Happy Habit Challenge tasks to help kids become aware of where their food comes from and how to be more creative with food.
